Baby Games Using a Sling or Baby Carrier Hip
Here are some games you can play using a baby carrier hip or baby sling. Most of them use motion.
So why is movement so important to your baby's development?
Because studies have revealed that a baby's social, emotional and physical development are all improved when exposed to motion. But we're not talking about the motion of the wheels of a stroller here...
It's all about the natural rhythm of your very own motion.
So get your baby and start rockin'!
Swing Rides
Place your baby on your baby sling or baby carrier hip. Support him holding him with one of your arms. Swing the sling up and down as you recite or listen to good bouncing rhymes. Below are a good bouncing and swinging rhymes you may recite when you do this activity.
Donkey, Donkey
Donkey, donkey,
Old and gray,
Open your mouth
And gently bray;
Lift your ears,
And blow your horn
To wake up the world
This sleepy morn.
Pony Ride
While your baby is in your sling/carrier, trot around the room singing this nursery rhyme sone (go ahead and make up the tune is you don't know how it goes).
Riding on My Pony
Riding on my pony,
My pony, my pony.
Riding on my pony,
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Galloping Ride
Galloping around the room together is a great game to play with baby to burn off energy and to learn rhythm. "Pop goes the Weasel" is an ideal galloping song because of the lively cadence and the anticipation of the "POP"!
Up and Down the City Road.
In and out the Eagle,
That's the way the money goes,
Pop! goes the weasel.
Half a pound of tuppeny rice,
Half a pound to treacle,
Mix it up and make it nice,
Pop! Goes the weasel!
Every night when I go out,
The monkey's on the tabel.
Take a stick and knock it off,
Pop! goes the weasel!
Musical Stop and Start Dance
This activity is a wonderful way to develop your babyês sense of anticipation. When you dance with your baby while he's in a baby carrier hip, have someone else stop and start the music, so you and your baby can dance together.
Exploring the House
When you baby seems restless or clingy at home, put him in your baby carrier hip and walk around the house. Point to different objects and appliances and say, "This is the stove," "This is the refrigerator," "This is the door," "This is the bathroom." You may also make up songs about the items to you point at and identify.
Rock-a-bye-Baby
While your baby is in your sling or carrier, hold her and rock her back and forth as you sing soothing songs such as lullabies. Use a rocking motion to calm your childe. This develops trust between the two of you. After the last line of the song, hold your toddler close and give her a big hug!
Rock a bye Baby on the tree top
When the wind blows the cradle will rock
When the bow breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all.
Bouncy Baby
This enjoyable bouncing game is a great bonding experience for you and your baby. While your baby is in the sling/baby carrier hip, hold him firmly. Say the following as you bounce your child.
Bouncing, bouncing, let's go bouncing
Up and Down, all around.
Bouncing bouncing let's go bouncing
Whoops! Don't fall down! (carefully tip your baby to one side while holding onto him)
Tall and Small Game
This is ideal when you baby is in a baby carrier (hip) where his hands can freely move. Hold his hands up high in the air for the word "tall" and down for the word "small"
Go to bed late
You will stay very small
Go to be early,
You will grow very tall.
You can also hold him while you are standing. This time tiptoe when you say the word "tall" and bend your knees (make sure you are holding on to a support when you do this so that you don't lose your balance!)
Fingerplays when using a baby carrier or baby carrier hip
When carrying your baby using a baby carrier, this means you've got your hands free. So use them by playing fingerplays!
